One of the great things about Arizona is the wide variety of choices available for educating our children.
Public school, home school, charter school, online, and back to basics education—just to name a few. Not every state is as flexible as Arizona when it comes to school choice.
In the past, private school was out of reach for most of us. Not anymore. With the creation of the private school tuition tax credit program, the legislature created a way for Arizona taxpayers to send income tax dollars they already owe to fund private education. And for many kids, that’s their best choice.
Our focus is on giving tuition scholarships to students with physical, psychological, and/or intellectual special needs because special needs students particularly benefit from the individual attention and custom lesson plans private schools can deliver.
Each year you donate, you get a dollar-for-dollar credit up to the amount listed below for your filing status to apply toward your Arizona income tax bill. If you need to, you can carry the credit forward for 5 years to use it all up. So, there’s a good chance it will cost you nothing more than your time filling out a little bit of paperwork to give a child in need the choice of a private school education.
For the 2023 tax year, the maximum credit is $2609 for those married filing jointly — $1307 for a single filer. 2023 tax year donations may be made through April 15, 2024.
